The material of this translation practice report comes from A Wrestling Life, and the translation form is English to Chinese. This book is done by Scott Schulte and Dan Gable. The original text belongs to the autobiography, its content is mainly narrative. This book has a certain motivational and educational function to the readers.Since there is no Chinese version of this book in China,I decide to use the Chapter 22 to Chapter 26 as the analytical material for the translation practice report after discussing with my tutor. The translation practice report is divided into five parts: task description, process description, translation preparation, case analysis and summary. The first chapter gives a brief introduction of the content, translation requirements and translation schedule. The second chapter is about the process from the beginning of translation to the submission of task. The third chapter includes the reading and analysis of the original text, the reading and analysis of parallel texts, the basic features of biographical literature works, the translation of professional terms and the choice of translation theory. As the original involves a large number of wrestling professional terms,I consulted with a large number of wrestling related information to accurately understand the original before the translation. The fourth chapter is the core part of this translation practice report.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,I discussed the translation techniques and tactics which used in the translation of the book from three aspects: word layer, sentence layer and rhetorical device. The fifth chapter mainly makes a summary of the translation.Through the translation of the book,I had a more systematic translation strategy for autobiography.
