The growing importance of English promotes demand for professional English teachers worldwide and,by extension, for qualified teacher training programmes of all kinds. The current emphasis on English language skills is shifted to emphasis on assessment of English teachers' professional and teaching skills.Assessing Language Teachers' Professional Skills and Knowledge consists of four sections: history and background, development and assessment, focus on the assessment of specific criteria, and assessment in context. This paper is a report on the translation of the second chapter of the first section in this book. The translator took the classification of text type developed by Katherina Reiss and skopos theory proposed by Hans Vermeer as the fundamental theoretical guidance, and adopted various translation methods, including restructuring, affirmative and negative, cutting and change of voice to solve problems on the lexical level, metaphors and syntactic level.Hopefully, this translation project and report can arouse English learners' interest on assessment of English teachers' language skills. Moreover,it can provide references for other translators in translating similar texts and tackling similar problems.
