Report On Bio-Energy Interpretation

This thesis is a report on a piece of Chinese-English interpretation task conducted by the author herself.The task is a bio-energy class interpreting at the seminar on bio-energy utilization in May 2017.The interpreter analyzed the interpretation of the lecture that lasted about two hours.The main content this thesis has chosen are situations where the lecturer broke away from content outline(lecture materials)and added new information.Focusing on these situations,this thesis analyzed some problems the interpreter encountered in the process of interpreting.Then,the interpreter probed into these problems and put forward corresponding coping strategies.Considering the task process of “pre-interpreting preparation” and “ad-hoc interpreting”,the interpreter divided Chapter 3 into three phases,including the very beginning phase,medium-and later-phase of pre-interpreting preparation and improvising preparation phase.Then in Chapter 4,transcript of the interpreter's interpretation is presented,from which typical examples were chosen for deep analysis from the perspective of “improvising performance”.The analysis is made up of three parts defects that the interpreter had,including hesitation,misinterpretation and correction,and then information delivery and use of asking as well as flexibility strategy.Through description of the task and case analysis in Chapter 3 and Chapter 4,the interpreter reached the following conclusion: when conducting interpretation that requires domain-specific knowledge,interpreter should set correct information transmission as one of the priorities;in the phase of preparation,communicating with the lecturer is necessary so as to better understand what the structure,type and content of the lecture is,thus providing more accurate interpretation for the audience;in the interpretation stage,the coping ways of grasping major information and flexibly dealing with secondary information should be adopted.
