This practice report has as its subject the English translations of two business contracts—a bidding contract and a license contract for technical know-how.The contract is stylistically characterized by “logical and rational”,“normative and formulated”,“professional and specialized”.Accordingly, the requirements for the contract translation are accuracy, precise and normal, which posed a great challenge to me.With the encouragement of my tutor and under his help, however,I managed to fulfill the two tasks, and I have benefited a lot from the practice. So I take delight in making it known in this report and particularly in making a self-reflection about the successes and failures in the translation. This report consists of five parts. The first part describes the task, mainly introducing the source and requirements of the tasks. The second part is a process description, generalizing the preparation phase, the translation process, and the translation correction and revision.Part Three elaborates on the detailed preparations for the translation, including collecting the background material, understanding the stylistic characteristics and the translation principles and strategies of the contract genre, preparing translation aided tools, studying the parallel texts and establishing the vocabulary table.Part Four—the Case Analysis—is the most important part, which, based on the translation principles and quality standards of the contract genre and combined with the use of corresponding translation strategies, analyses the gains and losses of the translation on the levels of word, sentence and text. The fifth part conducts a self-reflection on the completion of the two tasks, summing up the requirements needed for contract translation and the approaches to coming up to its quality standards.
