Translation Practice Report

Business contract is an agreement which is formatted according to law and has been notarized to determine rights and obligations of parties while conducting some business cooperation. As English for specific purposes, the language of the contract has become increasingly important and has higher requirement about its professionalism and accuracy. As a result, the translation of the contract calls for the translator with higher proficiency.As a practical text, the contract has unique characteristics in vocabulary and grammatical cohesion. Only when the translator understands the linguistic characteristics of the contract deeply can he translate it accurately. The translator needs not only to possess relevant professional knowledge, but also to ensure accurate, precise and specified language in the translation.This practice report aims to discuss and solve the problems and difficulties during the English-Chinese translation of the contract. Using the interior decoration contract and the furniture business contract as examples as well as parallel texts for reference to revise the translation for several times, we discuss the translation methods concerning the difficulties in contract translation such as vocabulary and syntax, so as to make it available for reference about these sorts of translation.
