In recent years,with the rapid development of science and technology,the automobile industry at home and abroad has been constantly developing.As a bridge,scientific and technological translation is a vital link in the communication between China and other foreign countries.During the internship,the author participated in the translation of OSL Oxygen Sensor's Component Specification which the company introduced from its head office in the United States.The author translated “OSL Oxygen Sensor Component Specification” into Chinese under the guidance of Newmark's communicative translation theory,attempting to accurately convey the text information and to achieve the communicative purposes of the text.This translation report consists of four chapters.The first chapter is a brief introduction to the translation project,including the source,the background and the basic content of it,as well as its objective and significance.The second chapter introduces the translation process of the project,including the preparation such as plan-making and the process of making the glossary and the review such as self-review and the review from the engineers of the company.The third chapter expounds the textual characteristics of science text and the source text,as well as the relevant translation standards such as accuracy,expressiveness and conciseness.The author also analyzed the translation process at the level of lexis and syntax,including the translation of the common vocabulary for professional use,the translation of the technical vocabulary and the abbreviations,the translation of attributive clauses(restrictive and non-restrictive clauses),the translation of imperative sentences and passive sentences.In the fourth chapter,the author made a summarization of the translation experience,trying to find out the deficiency during the translation,such as lacking professional and bio-language knowledge.At the end,the author put forward some suggestions for future improvement.Through an analysis of the translating process at the lexis and syntax level and this case,this report comes to the conclusion: this instruction belongs to the genre of scientific and technological text,with many professional terms existing in the text.To translate such terms,the translators should look up more relevant dictionaries and some professional books,or obtain more accurate information through Web search.For the general lexicon specialization translation,the translator should avoid the trap of the popular sense of the common words,and then translate them into vocabularies in the professional field according to the context.On top of translating of technical words and abbreviations,translators should avoid ambiguity to make the translation clear so that the readers can get the information accurately.When translating attributive clauses,the translator need to carefully analyze the structure of the sentences,make clear their logical relations,and put them into more technical but reasonable expression.When translating imperative sentences,the translators should put the tone in the top priority to translate them accurately and concisely.When translating passive sentences,the translators can turn the passive form to the active form,translate passive sentence into tipical Chinese sentence or the imperative sentence,or translate the passive sentence into the judgment or the idiomatic sentence.In recent years,the translation of technological texts is increasing.The author hopes that this translation report can serve as a reference for the translation of similar texts,and make some contributions to the exchanges in the science and technology field.
