Over the past few years, with the accelerating of globalization, countries are getting increasingly closer to each other and cultural exchanges are becoming more and more frequent.Learning, teaching and using a foreign language have become a trend, and there are many people studying and researching linguistics as well as applied linguistics. As a new branch of linguistics, corpus linguistics,on the one hand, could provide convenience for both teachers and students who are engaged in the linguistics and applied linguistics;on the other hand,it could expand the horizon of foreign language teachers and people engaged in the foreign affairs, and finally enhance their working efficiency. Therefore, the translation project is based on translating the materials of corpus linguistics. The translation materials are the first chapter and second chapter(partial)excerpted from the book entitled Corpus Linguistics: Investigating Language Structure and Use written by linguist Douglas Biber. The book introduces the basic methods of language investigation which is based on the corpus analyses. The theoretical basis of this report is the “Three Rules” of Skopos Theory promoted by Hans Vermeer,a representative of German functionalism.“Three Rules” are respectively skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.Besides, such translation techniques as addition, omission and conversion are also used to solve the problems and deal with difficulties encountered in translation. The author will analyze the various translation cases on two levels: lexical and syntactic level. The report includes four parts. The first part is the description of the project;the second part is the description of translation process;the third part is the analysis of translation cases;the last part is the conclusion of this project.
