With the development of Chinese economy,the improvement of comprehensive national strength,and with foreign economic and cultural communication have become more frequent,Chinese culture is also fast out of the country and goes to the world,an upsurge of learning Chinese is raised in the world.In order to popularize Chinese,improve the level of Chinese teaching in the world,promote the spread of Chinese language and culture abroad,deepen mutual understanding between China and the rest of the world,and enhance the friendship and communication among peoples of the world,volunteer Chinese teachers selected by Hanban,after training,are dispatched to many countries for Chinese teaching.In addition to work,volunteers have to face the challenge from different cultures overseas.How to effectively complete cross-cultural adjustment is an inevitable topic.The study of volunteers' cross-cultural adjustment can help volunteers a lot in working and living aspects,promoting the development of Chinese teaching.As a member of the volunteer Chinese teachers in Thailand,the author is teaching Chinese in the central region of Thailand.So,this paper,taking the volunteers in the central region of Thailand as the research object,investigates the cross-cultural adjustment of volunteer Chinese teachers by means of questionnaire,interview and case analysis.The result testify some theories of other researchers,such as cross-cultural adjustment has stages;the enhancement of language ability helps volunteers adapt to different culture better.But the survey also found some different from the traditional theory.For example,it is found that cross-cultural adaptability is not totally directly proportional to academic qualifications according to the sample of this study.In some difficult conditions,cross-cultural adaptability is likely to be inversely proportional to academic qualifications.At last,the survey also cited the intercultural communication cases,analyzed the reason for the difficulties in cross-cultural adjustment,and make suggestions for these difficulties are put forward to help later volunteers complete cross-cultural adjustment better,hope to help improve the ability of volunteers to solve all kinds of problems in the teaching and living overseas,and make greater contribution to the Chinese teaching.
