Cosmetic packaging,as a visual carrier,contains a strong charm of history,culture and design art,especially in the period of the Republic of China(1912-1949).To this end,the paper first combs the track of the development and changes of the ancient Chinese cosmetics manufacturing,marketing and packaging design,and explores the historical basis of the rapid development of cosmetics packaging design in the Republic of China,as well as economic,technological and cultural factors;secondly,through the comparative analysis of the remnants of cosmetics packaging objects and trademark patterns in the Republic of China,to find out its packaging design style.The formation and reasons of the packaging design include the variety of materials and shapes,the richness of styles and themes,the ingenuity of design and production,etc.,to dig out the traditional culture nourishment behind the evolution of its development,and the changes and migration of the new life style and Popular Aesthetics under the influence of Western art.Finally,through the induction and comparative study of image data,the package of the Republic of China period can be reproduced.Formation and development of packaging design consciousness,reiterate the social and cultural environment in which it is interwoven with contradictions,reveal the unique style of packaging design in cosmetics industry which is different from other industries in the same period.In a word,in the development of cosmetics packaging design in the Republic of China,the western design culture has added new vitality to it.The progress of science and technology and the change of national life style have also injected a strong impetus into the development of cosmetics design.It is in this context that diverse design trends,intense social contradictions,self-promotion of design and so on contributed to the colorful design style of cosmetics in the Republic of China.
