A Report On The Translation Of The Ghost Upon The Rail Based On Domestication

This report aims to analyze the difficulties in the process of English-to-Chinese translation of the Australian short story,The Ghost upon the Rail,and to form a summary of translation in the process of translation from the perspective of domestication.The translation of this short story contains the translation of conversation,cultural background,scene description,etc.,and for this type of text,domestication is adopted to allow the target language reader to better understand and appreciate the translated text.Based on the difficulties of translation,this report mainly analyzes the difficulties in lexical,syntactical and discourse level,thus the translation report is formed based on the source text and target text and it aims to provide referential information for the future practice of translation.For the theory,the paper will indicate how to handle the problem and how to make reviews in the process of translation of The Ghost upon the Rail by the application of domestication,and the paper will also indicate how domestication guides this type of literary translation;for practice,the paper will discuss and solve the problems in the practice of translation and perform summary and analysis upon specific difficulties occurred in translation,expecting to provide guidance for future practice of translation.At last the thesis will conclude some experience during the practice,which may be helpful for the future study and life.
