This translation exercise is a Chinese-English translation.The source text is selected from Chongqing Red Tourist Guidebook which is an important medium to understand the history and revolutionary culture of Chongqing.Its translation is of positive significance to the dissemination of the local red culture,further enhancing the cultural soft power of China.The original is the tourism text as well as the vocative text which contains a large amount of information relating to geographical,historical,cultural and social knowledge.In addition,the red tourism text has a strong narrative and many run-on sentences.By analyzing the textual features of tourist attractions,the author combines specific cases to analyze the difficulties and difficulties of the translation.This translation practice is mainly guided by Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory.In the process of translation,the author primarily adopts translation strategies such as free translation and explanatory translation,plus translation methods such as addition,omission and conversion.The choice of words and critical thinking run through the whole process of translation.Also,the understanding of the source text is vital.Techniques of translation are always secondary to it.When translating such red tourism texts,the basic information of the source text should be kept and the cultural wide gap should be narrowed so that the translation is easy to understand for foreigners. |
