Barriers In Listening Comprehension In English To Chinese Consectutive Interpretation And Their Solutions

Listening comprehension is the first step of interpreting,and it is also a very basic and important step.Listening comprehension can determine the performance of an interpreter to a large extent.However,if an interpreter has a problem in listening comprehension,it may wreak havoc on interpretation.Listening in interpreting is very different from general listening in that the former requires the interpreter to grasp the true meaning behind the sentences,which must be acquired through large amount of professional training.This paper,based on mock interpretation at the 2018 Economic Club of New York,discusses the factors that lead to insufficient listening comprehension and their solutions.The writer transcribed the source speech and the target speech,did a lot of analysis and referred to related papers and finally classified the problems and found solutions.It is due to lack of analysis,knowledge of the language and extra-linguistic knowledge and imbalanced effort distribution in note taking that the author makes mistakes like inaccuracy and omission.After serious studies,analysis and reference to relevant papers,the author found the solutions,i.e.:ways to enhance analysis,knowledge of the language and extra-linguistic knowledge as well as ways to improve note taking so as to better effort distribution.Through this whole process of studying and analyzing,the author has known her weaknesses that resulted in her inaccurate interpretation and has found the solutions which are believed to help the writer in her future interpreting career.
