Preliminary Study Of Gaopo Culture

In recent years,cultural relics with the same characteristics have been found in the upper and middle reaches of the Anning River,such as the Gaopo site and the Zhaojiawan site in Mianning County,the Dayangdui site and the Lijiawan site in Xichang City.The cans with big mouth,the drum-shouldered bowls and stream decorated like a duck's mouth are typical artifacts,belonging to the fixed archaeological assemblages of the excavated remains.Among these pottery relics,the large pieces of pottery are mainly composed of brown red-sand pottery,and small pieces of pottery are sandwiched,with very little clay pottery.The pattern is mainly made up of embossed designs and veined decorations.stone discs,stone chisels,net pendants,stone shovel and stone knives belong to the commonest stone tools.It can be found that the overall style of Gaopo remains is different from those of neighboring Henglanshan culture,Jigongshan culture and those in Yunnan Damonziand Chengdu Plain.For the purpose of our research,,the cultural type can now bedefined as“Gaopo culture".In conclusion,the Gaopo culture period is the Shang and Zhou period,roughly distributed in the upper reaches of the Anning River Basin.First,The study will be based on thepublished materials from the two excavation reports of Gaopo Site in 2010 and 2011.According to the materials in the strata,the cultural depositions in Gaopo site can be divided into one or two phases,of which the second phase is divided into two sections.When comparing with the other sites,it is ideal for our study to use the two sections of the Gaopo site as the referred scales,defining the Gaopo cultureinto two phases and three sections.Then,The pottery of Gaopo culture were analyzed in contrastwith the archaeological remains of the published neighboring areas.The results indicate that the Gaopo cultural artifacts were divided into 6 groups according to the origins of the objects,among which 1,2 and 3 groups are composed of the main factors.Last,Further analysis combing with ¹⁴C data suggests that the Gaopo culture can be dated back to Late Shang Dynasty and Early Western Zhou Dynasty.Finally,the Gaopo cultural artifacts are grouped to investigate the origin of the Gaopo culture and its relationship with the surrounding cultural relics.In addition,comparison the Archaeological culture in the middle and upper reaches of the Anning River in late Shang and early western zhou dynasty with the Sanxingdui culture and the Shierqiao culture,the cultural type represented by Dong Jiapo's early remains and the Jigong Mountain culture in the Zhaolu Basin shows that there should exist cross-regional cultural exchange and social interaction during that period.
