In recent years,mystery novels have been increasingly popular among readers with plot twists and turns,gripping suspense,and rigorous logic.With the publication of the Da Vinci Code in China,mystery novels have started bestseller tour in the Chinese market,whereas the translation studies of mystery novels have not attracted enough attention.Undoubtedly,mystery novels attach great importance to the creation of atmosphere,the depiction of the plot and the shaping of the characters.At the same time,the use of environment description,psychological description,and dialogue processing in the novel plays an important role in attracting reader's interest.This report takes the translation of the mystery novel Neverworld Wake as the starting point,and the translator will put forward some ideas concerning the translation of mystery novels.The novel,written by American mystery novelist Marisha Pessl,was published on June 5,2018 and has not been translated into Chinese yet.Taking the translation of the first three chapters of Neverworld Wak as an example,this report discusses the translation practice on the lexical,syntactic and textual levels under the guidance of Tetler's Three-Principle translation theory,and introduces the application of the theory and translation strategies in detail.How the source language can be translated into the target language and achieve equivalent effect of readers is the key issue in this report.During the translation practice,the translator used a variety of translation strategies and skills and endeavored to help Chinese readers appreciate the style of the original,generate strong resonance,and have a better reading experience under the premise of being faithful to the original text.The purpose of this report is to provide some references for the translators participating in translating projects of mystery novels,to provide experience for translation work in the future,as well as to contribute to more outstanding works for readers.
