Vanity Fair is the.pinnacle of British critical realism writer William Makepeace Thackeray in the 19th century.After a detailed literature review,no study has been done with the appliance of the Skopos Theory to analyze the Chinese version of Vanity Fair.Based on the original version of Vanity Fair and the Chinese version of the Chapters 1-4 translated by Rong Rude and YangBi,this thesis applies Skopos Theory to compare and analyze from the perspectives of Skopos principle,coherence principle and function plus loyalty principle so as to reveal the influence of the subtle differences of words and phrases between the two Chinese versions on readers' reading.Under the guidance of the three principles of Skopos theory,10 examples are extracted from the two Chinese versions separately to analyze the nuances of words and sentences from the two Chinese versions.It can be found that the two Chinese versions of Vanity Fair feature as follows:Yang Bi's version:the language features faithful,concise and specific,which conforms to Chinese expression habits and behaves Chinese thinking features.At the same time,it adopts authentic Chinese to meet the needs of public reading.Rong Rude's version:the language is gorgeous,the sentence pattern is varied,and his version is full of original taste as well as literary color.It reproduces the original artistic style and language characteristics in the terms of language,which highlights the original odor of writing humor and satire.The purpose of this thesis is,on the basis of the Skopos Theory,to guide readers to understand the subtle difference of it in the appliance of literary translation. |
