Imagery, one of the essential features of literary works,is a way of literary presentation by which authors express their emotions by means of objective objects. The translation of literary works, therefore,is not only a conveyance of literal meaning, but also a means to convey artistic conception, emotion and aesthetic feeling embedded in original texts. In this light, translation of images always constitutes one of the vital issues in the translation of classical literature.Li Qingzhao is widely accepted as a typical female poet in the history of Chinese literature.Over the years, although there have been numerous studies on the translation of Li Qingzhao’s Ci poems, few of them are devoted to the translation of cultural images in a comprehensive way.Given this, the present paper attempts to explore the translation of cultural images in Li Qingzhao’s Ci poems from the perspective of Gestalt Heterogenous Isomorphism Theory.Gestalt Heterogenous Isomorphism is put forward by Gestalt psychologists to analyze the relationship between mind and body.According to the theory, although the physical world and the mental world are different in form, the structure of their forces can be the same.If the form of force represented by objects is structurally similar to the function of force in human emotions, these objects can express human emotions. As far as translation is concerned, therefore,it is necessary for translators to fully understand the original text in order to convey the emotion expressed by the author,so that the readers and the author can have the same aesthetic experience and resonate with each other. With the assistance of “Heterogenous Isomorphism”,readers are expected to comprehensively experience the feelings that the author means to convey with images, surmount the barriers of culture and language, and make the translation more vivid. In view of this, the present thesis first analyses the Gestalt Heterogenous Isomorphism Theory, the translation of images, and the translation of Li Qingzhao’s Ci poems respectively. And then,it introduces her life and literary works, summarizes the characteristics of the images in Li’s Ci poems, and classifies the cultural images applied in them. Finally, the author discusses the translation of cultural images in Li Qingzhao’s Ci poems from the perspective of Gestalt Heterogenous Isomorphism Theory and analyzes the applicability of the theory to the translation of cultural images in literary works. It is suggested that in the process of translation, the translator should consider the influence of psychological factors so as to better convey the emotion and spirit of the original author. The author holds that the translation of cultural images plays a vital role in the translation of literary works.Whether the translation is vivid or not has a direct impact on the aesthetic experience of readers, which is related to whether the reader can accurately understand the emotion conveyed by the original author. It is expected that the present study will shed light on the translation of cultural images in literary works with the guidance of Gestalt Heterogenous Isomorphism.
