The source text of this translation report-Chairman's Statement and Helping Britain Prosper is extracted by the author from Lloyds Bank 2017 Annual Report.Texts of such genre are usually translated in a covert way which means the translator is expected to apply a cultural filter to weaken the cultural features of the original text. The style of Chinese and English annual reports are quite different.Chinese annual reports usually focus on the company and use idioms to highlight the company image of strength and reliability. It aims at promoting the enterprise with embellished language in an official and formal tone. However,English annual reports usually focus on the shareholders and clients with the concise content rendered in a logical and objective way. Thus, using the covert translation of the source text is difficult. The author used House's revised TQA model(2015)to analyze the translation, from three aspects of field, tenor and mode, and concluded the skills applied in the translation. For the aspect of field, methods such as non-professionalizing terms, adjusting voice and reducing clause connections are used. For the aspect of tenor, skills such as changing persons and amplification are applied. For the aspect of mode, measures such as converting subjects, division and clarifying the pronouns are adopted.Except for some errors which can be classified into the phenomena of cultural filter, the translation is approximately in a good match with its original textThrough the translation practice, the author hopes to achieve self-improvement in the translation skills and summarizes effective translation methods for texts of such genre. This paper also hopes to provide a reference for future research and application to House's revised TQA model.
