Simultaneous interpreting(SI for short)is one that uses one language to express the thoughts and emotions of a speaker in another language at almost the same rate of speaking as the speaker does. The main feature of SI is that the speaker speaks without pauses while the interpreter is listening and interpreting simultaneously. The average interval between the original oral text and interpreting is 3 to 4 seconds,to more than 10 seconds at its most. The interpreter works during the interval between two sentences by the speaker. Therefore, good qualities are required of a competent interpreter.International organization meetings favor for it for its time-saving and directness,as it is compared with consecutive interpreting. In the early of 1970s,China resumed his place in the UN and its international status has since greatly risen. With international communication between China and the rest of the world ever increasing,China needs more and more competent simultaneous interpreters. The present study is a report on the writer’s internship as a simultaneous interpreter with theoretical reflections mainly on the six main aspects of memory, prediction, flexibility, information storage, psychological quality, and simultaneous comprehension and expression. Some strategies are suggested on the basis of the above study.Major findings of the study are summarized as follows:1)In terms of memory,long-term memory refers to accumulation of knowledge of various branches of learning while short-term memory depends more on training.2)Predictive ability increases with expansion of knowledge and linguistic competence, which contributes to educated guesses by context.3)An interpreter gets to know how to deal with exigences through practice and practice that lead to beneficial accumulations of experiences.
