The report is based on the E-C translation practice of the first chapter and the sixth chapter in Food and Society,Principles and Paradoxes. The first chapter of the source text is a summary and epitome of the whole book and illustrates the concept of“principles and paradoxes” of the relationship between food and society, and elaborates them clearly and vividly by giving examples.Chapter six describes the system of food industrialization and analyzes the implicit high costs of the cheap industrial food from the perspective of pressure placed on environment and society. The translation report mainly summarizes the difficulties in the translation process and puts forward some tentative solutions.Under the guidance of Christiane Nord's “functionality plus loyalty”,the translator expects to present an accurate, fluent and understandable target text by applying some translation strategies, and aims to provide some help for the target readers who are interested in food study and helps to explore the connection between society and food in an extensive way.The report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is the description of the translation task, including the background of the translation task, text type analysis, and the objective and value of this translation practice. The second chapter is a description of the whole translation process, including the preparation of translation task, the choice and use of translation strategy, and the control of translation quality. The third chapter analyzes some typical cases from three different aspects: lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level, including the translation difficulties encountered during the translation practice. The problems and difficulties are classified and solved by using corresponding translation strategies. The last chapter focuses on some unsolved problems in translation practice and the inspiration for future translation work.
