A Report On Guide Interpreting In Zhengding

With the economic globalization going deeper,communications between countries and regions are getting more and more frequent.Therefore,tourism is an important way of promoting Chinese culture,and guide interpreters are playing a vital role in this process.However,the significance of guide interpreting is always undervalued or underestimated.As a matter of fact,as a cultural mediator,guide interpreters are absolutely crucial in this process.For the quality of interpreting in many ways determines how much the foreign tourists learn about Chinese culture or whether they can appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture.Traditional culture is the essence of Chinese culture as well as the main content of tourism resources.However,most foreign tourists are short of the knowledge about Chinese traditional culture.As a result,a big challenge in guide interpreting is to interpret culture-loaded expressions.Interpreters are supposed to adopt appropriate coping tactics according to different situations to help the foreign tourists to learn about Chinese culture and appreciate the beauty of the scenic spots.This report is based on the author's practice as a guide interpreter for a group of foreign tourists in Zhengding,a cultural city with a long history in Hebei Province.The author selected the transcription of interpreting recording in the two scenic spots,Rong Mansion and Longxing Temple.This report includes five parts:Introduction,Task Description,Process Description,Case Study and Conclusion.With the guidance of Skopos theory,the author analyzes different difficulties encountered in the interpreting process and tries to summarize the interpreting strategies.It is hoped that the report can serve as a reference for guide interpreters when encountering the same challenge.
