The Study Of The Monism Scale Theory Of Percy Goetschius

Peroy Goetschius(1858-1949)was a famous American composer,theoretician and music educator whose theories have promoted the development of American Theory of Composition in the 20 th century.Focusing on the theory of "Scale Monism" in his work,The Structure of Music,this paper explored the difference between this theory and the "dualism" as well as the correlation between it and Chinese traditional music theory.In addition,the musical elements including the relations of sound,the relations of keys,natural chords,harmony and non-harmonic tone were systematically analyzed and demonstrated based on the theory of "Scale Monism".It is expected that the research of this paper will lead the domain of the basic theory of music to the expensive understanding of the system of the major and minor,further enriching and improving the mode theory of Western music since the 20 th century.
