A Translation Report On A Mechanical Equipment Instruction Manual From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

This translation report is based on an English-Chinese translation task of MA30P31 Manual Sliding Plug Door Installation and Commissioning Instruction Manual assigned by Jiangsu Engineering and Technical Translation Institute.The original text mainly introduces the installation,commissioning,required equipment,and related cautions of the manual sliding plug door,with the intention to provide technical support and guidance for the professionals.In this report,using Skopos Theory as a guidance,the author mainly analyzed the textual features of the original text,discussed the difficulties encountered during the translating process at the lexical and syntactical level,and utilized translation methods under the guidance of Skopos theory in the hope of providing experience for similar translation practice.This report is divided into five chapters: The first chapter describes the source and the certain background information of this translation project.The second chapter is an overview of Skopos theory,with the focus on the key points concerned.The third chapter mainly introduces the textual features of the mechanical equipment instruction manual.The fourth chapter cites some examples to demonstrate the problems the author encountered in translation and the corresponding translation methods he employed.The fifth chapter summarizes the experience and lessons the author has obtained from this translation activity,and what prospects we can look forward to in the future in terms of translating the similar type of text.
