Translation Practice Report On Mechanical Material From Airbus Group

With the deepening of economic globalization, and reform and opening policy, exchanges between China and foreign countries have become increasingly frequent. As mechanical manufacturing is booming all over the world, how to convey message from English mechanical materials to Chinese in an accurate, direct and efficient way proves to be critical.Under the guidance of the three principles of Skopos theory, this paper concentrates on how to accurately convey into Chinese the original message in Brief Introduction of Airbus A/C. Language features, such as concision and accuracy, of the original mechanical text are taken into consideration. In the original English version, terms in abbreviation are commonly used and may therefore be easily confused by Chinese readers. To attack such an issue, the technique of addition is employed for an easier understanding in the Chinese version. The original English version includes various long sentences with explicit logical relations, which poses a problem for its Chinese translation. With principles from Skopos theory, the techniques of deletion and separate translation are taken to ensure the understandability of the Chinese version.The translation practice has helped the translator to gain a deeper understanding of the art of translation. Specifically, comprehensive preparation serves as the sound foundation for high-quality translation in the target language; when translation is done under the guidance of Skopos theory, essence of the original English version can be better kept; careful proofreading proves to be critical for qualified translation.
