Based on the translation project "The Age of Impeachment-American Constitutional Culture since 1960",this thesis mainly discusses about the translation of political terms in the background of the United States Congress.Different from the political terms of propaganda function such as "Scientific Outlook on Development",the political terms studied in this thesis are terms which widely known in the political culture of the United States but barely known by Chinese readers.Regarding the translation strategy applied in these terms, neither "Domesticating" nor "Foreignizing" can guarantee the best effect of translation. The principles of terms translation applied in this thesis is inspired by Chesterman's translation ethics theory, that is,the reproduction of ethics, service ethics, communicative ethics,Living in a standardized ethics, and terminology translation standards of Professor Jiang Wangqi: accuracy, readability, transparency.Based on the standards, this thesis discusses the practice of Chinese translation of political terms such as“checkers speech”?“lame duck”,“floor debate”?“both sides of aisle”,and “white house chief of staff”.
