The source text is selected from chapter four and five of Translation,Ideology and Gender written by Carmen Camus Camus and other scholars.Published in 2017,the book contains more than 70,000 words and the author has translated approximately 15,000 words from the original text.The work is an academic disquisition which refers to translation and its social and historical contexts in a particular situation,some of which involved a gendered approach.Guided by Peter Newmark's text typology theory,the report analyzes some translation difficulties,such as the translating of terminologies and Spanish names;the translating of academic citations;the translating of long sentences and complex structure of sentences.The author proposes some relevant solutions to solve the problems.First of all,the author consults some dictionaries and relevant references to achieve the accurate translation of terminologies;secondly,when translating Spanish names,the author searches the internet frequently to ensure the names as accurate as possible;thirdly,the author reads some related literature reviews in the translation of academic citations with the view of performing the concise translation;lastly,as for the long sentences,the author divides them into several small clauses and the original text is truly conveyed in terms of connotation and value system in accordance with Newmark's text typology theory.The report aims to strengthen academic communications and information dissemination at home and abroad.In addition,the author could also comprehend translation strategies of academic text during this translation practice.Through this application of text typology theory,the report will offer some advice and suggestions for translation practice of academic text in the future.
