Early childhood education is becoming increasingly important with each passing day.All parents and educators are attaching importance to how to establish emotional communication with children in early childhood and how to offer them practical guidance. When Young Children Need Help was published by Redleaf Press in 2015.Its author,Deborah Hirschland, analyzed the behaviors of challenging children and the reasons behind these behaviors from the perspective of pedagogy and psychology. This book represents a relatively new and authoritative monograph on early childhood education. Therefore, the book is chosen to disseminate knowledge about early childhood education to the target readers. The genre theory focuses on linguistic features, generic structures and communicative purposes, providing a new theoretical perspective for translation practice.Guided by this theory, the difficulties encountered during translating process were analyzed and solved from four aspects: lexicon, sentence, discourse, and subheading.First,to achieve communicative purpose, domestication was used to render culture loaded words;to reproduce the linguistic features of clarity, simplicity, and colloquialism, conversion was adopted to translate hyphenated compounds, and equivalent translation was adopted to render phrasal verbs.Second,in order to attain the linguistic feature of the loose sentences, the original syntactic order was followed during translating process;to reproduce the linguistic features of rhetorical sentences, literal and free translation were embraced.Third,to make the text cohesive andcoherent, the ways of translating reference words were analyzed.Fourth, there were many subheadings in the original text.As for subheadings that contained enough communicative information, literal translation was adopted. As to those that could not be understood before the relevant discourses were read through, free translation was used to achieve communicative purpose. In addition,in order to communicate with the target readers successfully, creative translation was employed to render some subheadings with figures of speech.Apart from solving these problems, the translator also gains some valuable experience.First, reading relevant books contributes to the understanding of the source text.Second, acquiring knowledge about discourse analysis can improve translation quality.Third, only the generic features of the source text are considered in the translating process, can the translated text be consistent with the original one in content, form and style. In addition,to improve translation quality, the ability to analyze discourse needs to be developed in the future translation. Most of translation reports are written from lexical and sentential level.Translators need pay more attention to discoursal translation too.So far,few translators apply the genre theory to translation field.Hope that this report can make a little contribution to other translators.
