This interpreting practice report is about the author's experience as an interpreter for the lecture“Introductions of Religious University in the United States and Azusa Pacific University”on July 12th,2018.The purpose of this report is to review the interpreting process and summarize the experience and lessons learned from the practice.The author summarizes the difficulties and errors in the process of interpreting and puts forward corresponding interpreting strategies.This report is comprised of four chapters:task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.In Chapter 1,the author describes the task source and significance,contents and requirements.In Chapter 2,the author narrates the whole process of the task,which includes preparations for interpreting,on-site interpreting and post interpreting.Preparations for interpreting contain preparations for background knowledge and vocabulary,content anticipation,communication with the speaker,preparations for tools and developing strategies for the interpreting practice.Chapter 3 is the core section of this report,which is comprised of difficulties in the consecutive interpreting practice:ambiguity caused by pronouns in the lecture,redundant information from the speaker,syntactical differences between English and Chinese,cultural barriers and unknown information in the source language.Correspondingly,the author provides coping tactics on the basis of skopos theory:addition,omission,division and contextual speculation.In Chapter 4,the author summarizes her gains and shortcomings through the interpreting practice,so as to provide the author with reference for future interpreting.
