With the acceleration of globalization, the future for mankind is closely connected. Therefore, the living conditions of human beings under the circumstances of contemporary industrial society are attracting more and more attention from all walks of life. The translation material is excerpted from Introduction and Chapter ?of Social Theory of Fear, which is a sociological text with the theme of social fear, revealing how the capitalist elites have used fear and privilege to control society and maintain their privileged status. This translation report focuses on the application of Skopos Theory to the practice of E-C translation of Social Theory of Fear.Skopos Theory not only plays an important role as the guiding principle, but also is faithfully conducted at lexical and syntactic levels of the translation practice. The translator takes producing a target text that conforms to the three rules of Skopos Theory as the aim of this report.During the translation process, such translation strategies as Literal Translation and Free Translation, such translation methods as Addition,Omission,Specific Translation,Generalization and Conversion of Parts of Speech are employed at the lexical level, the methods of Linear Translation,Division,Inversion are applied at the syntactic level on the basis of the difference between English and Chinese.By analyzing and sorting out a large number of translation examples, the translator attempts to illustrate the applicability of Skopos Theory to the translation of informative texts,so as to provide cases for the reference of translators when dealing with similar subjects.
