Application Of The Three Rules Of Skopos Theory To Chinese-English Translation Of Tourist Texts

With economic globalization and China's reform and opening up,more and more foreigners come to China for sightseeing.As most foreign tourists do not know much Chinese,Chinese to English translation of tourist texts should be paid great attention to.Huixian County of Henan Province,which is the author's hometown,boasts rich tourism resources.However,the language barrier has brought some inconvenience,putting a brake on the going-abroad process of tourism in Huixian County.Thus when the author contacts with Huixian Tourism Administration,the administration happily assigns the author a task of C-E translation of A Brief Introduction to Tourism Resources of Huixian County,the tourism brochure of Huixian County.By analyzing the C-E translation of A Brief Introduction to Tourism Resources of Huixian County,this thesis mainly discusses the application of the Three Rules(skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule)of Skopos Theory to C-E translation of tourist texts.On this basis,this thesis further talks about the selection of specific translation methods and techniques in C-E translation practice of tourist texts under the guidance of Skopos Theory,hoping to provide experience and references for further translation studies and practices on tourist texts.Skopos Theory states that,translation is a purposeful activity and the core of a translation practice is its skopos.In most translation practices of tourist texts,the translation skopos is to impart information to the target readers and attract the target readers to come for sightseeing.Therefore,Chinese to English translation of tourist texts should give priority to English readers and make flexible choices of translation methods and techniques,so as to make the target text easily understood by English readers and attract them to visit China.This thesis consists of three parts:the introduction,the main body and the conclusion.The introduction introduces the research background,purposes and significance,and the structure of the thesis.The main body includes three chapters:Chapter one not only provides a detailed introduction to Skopos Theory and its Three Rules,but also introduces the translation skopos of A Brief Introduction to Tourism Resources of Huixian County;Chapter two analyzes the application of the Three Rules of Skopos Theory to C-E translation of tourist texts by giving some examples;Chapter three talks about the selection of specific translation methods and techniques in C-E translation of tourist texts from the perspective of Skopos Theory.The conclusion summarizes the whole thesis and emphasizes the guidance role of Skopos Theory and its Three Rules in C-E translation of tourist texts.
