A Practice Report On English-Chinese Translation Of The News Reports On China-pakistan Economic Corridor By The Times Of India

As the flagship project of President Xi Jinping's Belt and Road Initiative(BRI),the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)can play an exemplary role in the implementation of BRI.India has always been skeptical of CPEC due to geopolitics.Therefore,it is of great significance for China to understand the public opinions of India on CPEC.The Times of India is one of the mainstream newspapers in India,specializes in domestic and international political news,and can reflect the political views of the Indian government and the public opinions of Indian society.In this translation practice,23 news reports about CPEC by The Times of India are selected as the original text,which covers the events related to CPEC and analyzes the impact of the project on India,China and Pakistan.The barriers encountered in this translation practice are caused by complex sentence structures,complex modifiers and ideologically-distorted words and sentences and therefore this paper adopts the reconstruction of sentence patterns as the translation strategy.For the complex sentence structures,the author starts with the analysis of logical relations in the original sentences and adopts the method of division and reversion.In the translation of the complex modifiers,the author converts the original participle phrases and prepositional phrases into the clauses.For the distorted words and sentences,the author applies deletion and replacement.Therefore,this translation practice can provide some reference for translation of news reports.
