A Reflective Research Report On The E-C Translation Of Diving In Southeast Asia(Excerpts)

This thesis is a reflective report on the E-C translation of Diving in Southeast Asia(Excerpts).Diving in Southeast Asia is a comprehensive diving guide to the best diving spots in Indonesia,Malaysia,Philippines and Thailand.The author introduces every diving spot,including accommodation,price,diving institutions,local history,diving knowledge,diving environment and so on.As tourism text translation,the translation practice contains many diving proper nouns.In the process of translation,on the one hand,the translator paid attention to the accurate translation of the original text and diving proper terms;on the other hand,in order to achieve the inspiration of source text,the translator translated the vocative text by transforming the expression o.f words.This report begins with the background of Diving in Southeast Asia,and then introduces the purpose and significance of the study of the translator.From the perspective of textual and lexical features,the translator analyzed the content of the original text and the characteristics of the vocative text,the translation of the large number of diving terms and the choice of meaning and appropriate expression of the widely-used adjective "good" Furthermore,the translator introduced the three major problems encountered during the translation,which are the translation of diving terms,the choice of meaning and appropriate expression of "good".and how to convey the vocative function of the source text.To solve the problems,the translator applied transliteration and direct translation with annotation,the appropriate understanding and expression of "good",convey the original expressions into four-character structures accordingly.In conclusion,the translator summarized the problems and solutions and the experience learnt from the translation.This thesis is supposed to be helpful to underwater diving and tourism enthusiasts,and expected to be used as a reference for translators of such topics.
