A Report On The Translation Of Whitewash: The Story Of A Weed Killer,Cancer,and The Corruption Of Science (Chapters 3&4)

This is a report on the translation of the third and fourth chapter of Whitewash: The Story of a Weed Killer,Cancer,and the Corruption of Science by Carey Gillam.These two chapters point out the fact that the weed killer rolled out by Monsanto company,which have made up the majority of the American market through illegal monopoly methods,is harmful to human's health.Before translating,the translator analyzed the language feature of the original text and characterized it into information text according to Peter Newmark's text typology theory.The translator endeavored to use communicative translation to guide through the translation process.The report consists of five chapters.Chapter One is the translation project description.Chapter Two is the background of the source text.Chapter Three is an introduction to Peter Newmark's translation theory,including text typology,semantic translation and communicative translation.Chapter Four is about translation difficulties and methods and how to use the communicative translation theory to solve the difficulties of long complex sentence through case studies.Chapter Five concludes with the lessons and unsolved problems concerning the translation project.
