Based on the E-C translation of Computer-Aided Translation Technology:A Practical Introduction(excerpts),this report explores two aspects in the translation process. The first aspect lies in the way of grasping the resource text in pre-translation,and the other is to achieve accuracy and authenticity in the translation as far as possible. In the pre-translation preparation stage, the author read the whole book to grasp the main idea by using the translation tools and parallel texts.According to the task requirements as well as the functions and aims of the original text, the stylistic features of the original text is analyzed.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation, translation problems and common phenomena are discussed, including the translation of professional vocabulary, the accurate grasp of passive sentences and long sentences, the coherence and cohesion of texts, and the translation of legends. Methods are available in the practice as follows:At lexical level, reference books and parallel texts are applied to ensure the correctness of professional terms. At syntactical level,English passive sentences can be translated into Chinese passive sentences, active sentences or common sentence patterns. And conversion and recombination can ensure authentic expression of long sentences. At textual level, reorganization and adjustment of cohesive words can be used to achieve logical semantics and fluent texts. The report illustrates three necessary steps where a translator should attach importance in the course of cross-language and cross-cultural translation:comprehension, translation and proofreading. It is also crucial to analyze the text from three aspects:vocabulary, syntax and discourse. |
