A Report On Computer-aided Translation Of Why Men Fight

Literature is an extremely important form of culture transmission,therefore literature translation is considered to be the key point of culture communication.Today an increasing number of cultural exchanges has brought about a large number of input and output literary works,for this reason manual translation is unable to meet the needs of the large amount of translation.In the presence of the trend of combining software with translation,however literature translation lacks studies and practice in the field of computer and translation.Therefore,the author has studied two key chapters of "Why Men Fight" which is written by Bertrand Russell who won Nobel prize.By means of computer-aided translation,the author has tried to discuss and review the advantages and disadvantages of the CAT software—Trados.Also the author has confirmed the core functions of Trados,including the use of termbase,translation memory and error correction.With the assistance of computer-aided translation(CAT),translation can achieve highest efficiency with fewer mistakes.At the same time,the author has realized the significance of human intervention in the translation process,the importance of overcoming cultural differences during the process,and also figured out how to make conversion between languages with literature background.This conversion should not ignore the interaction with the writer for the excessive pursuit of efficiency and formal equivalence.Therefore the author believes that it is meaningful to seek a balance,that is to say,to set translation into a cross-cultural communication environment,which can attribute to a better effect and a balance that maintain both original meaning and its function.
