As an advanced platform for Confucianism research currently,the World Confucian Conference aims to promote the academic research and exchanges in the study of the value and significance of Confucianism.This report focuses on a selective translation for the academic achievement of the 8th World Confucian Conference—The 8th Session of the World Confucian Conference Memoir,which mainly discusses the relationship between Confucianism and a community with a shared future for mankind.Therefore,the selective translation of The 8th Session of the World Confucian Conference Memoir is of a great importance to the dissemination of Confucianism and the researches of the reconstruction of the contemporary social values.The report is divided into five parts.The first part briefly introduces the background of the World Confucian Conference and the purpose and significance of the report.The second part introduces the content,the language features of the source text and the target readers.The third part mainly focuses on the pre-translation preparation,translation process and quality control.From the perspective of the Skopos theory,the forth part analyzes the difficulties respectively from lexical,syntactic,textual and cultural aspects.At the lexical level,the translator mainly adopts the foreignization-oriented translation method in the process of transmitting the content of the source text,supplemented by domestication,so as to be accepted by target readers.At the syntactic level,through the contrast of the differences between English and Chinese,the sentence structures are readjusted to conform to the expressions of the target language;at the textual level,the textual coherence and internal logic of the translated text can be achieved mainly through proper treatment of cohesive devices.And at the cultural level,the interlingual translation is mainly based on intralingual translation,and the deep cultural connotations are transformed into texts that foreign readers can understand well,which will finally realize the function of disseminating core values of Confucianism.Finally,the translator briefly summarizes the entire report.Through this translation practice,the translator not only understands the Confucian culture and the latest research achievements of Confucianism both at home and abroad,but also has been systematically trained and improved in translating such academic texts.In view of a large number of classical quotations in academic works of the source text,translation of such academic works is very challenging.Therefore,in the future,it is necessary for the translator to strengthen the study of classical works and improve the quality of translation,so as to make a modest contribution to the dissemination of Confucian culture in the current trend of world civilization dialogue.
