With the further improvement of academic research in China, the need for the translation of academic text also increases. Therefore, exploring the translation methods of academic papers will be of importance, for it helps to promote academic exchanges between China and foreign countries and to make academic research more effective. This is a translation practice report of the academic text selected from The Handbook of the Psychology of Communication Technology.Academic text is characterized by formal language with technical terms and complex sentences.Based on the translation of Chapter 17 and Chapter 23 of the book, the report presents the translation methods used in dealing with the difficulties in translation and the personal experience in the application of SDL Trados in the process. The report briefly introduces the background of the task, the main ideas of the translation material, and the theory guiding the translation practice. Then it describes the whole process of translation, with the illustration of figures from Trados. With the support of modern translation technology, the translation of terms were carried out mainly through terminology database and network resources.Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the long and difficult sentences in the two academic papers were translated by using various ways, such as sequential method, reversed order and division of sentence structure, and transformation of sentence pattern,in an attempt of achieving the purpose of communication. All these are illustrated with detailed examples from the chapters translated. The report concludes by summarizing the problems and limitations of the translation of academic papers, and the experience and lessons drawn from the practice.
