This translation report selects the first three chapters of English Language Teaching Research in South Korea: A Review of Recent Studies(2009-2014)as the object of translation and translation study.The article comes from the column “A Country in Focus” in the journal Language Teaching(Volume 49 Issue 1)edited by Dr.Graeme Porte and published by the Cambridge University Press in January 2016.In this article,95 studies from a pool of 1,200 studies published between 2009 and 2014 on English language teaching and learning have been reviewed,focusing on researches within the public school context.By translating the first three chapters,this translation project hopes to facilitate the view of English teachers in China on what their Korean counterparts are doing,and even obtain some enlightenment from them.As for the translation report,it is based on the study from the perspective of language and culture how the translator tackled translation difficulties at the verbal,phrasal and cultural levels under the guidance of translation ethics with Andrew Chesterman’s five models at its core in translating the original text.Meanwhile,it argues that the translation action needs to be made with theoretical support by integrating translation subjectivity with translation ethics. |
