Equated to the"Industrial Revolution" in terms of technological innovations, big data and the cloud are seen as the third wave of information technology and will lead the future information industry, the development of which is also the key to building a digital silk road of the 21st century.Given the context and the need of the age,Chapters 1,9 and 11 of the source text Big Data and Cloud Computing for Development:Lessons from Key Industries and Economies in the Global South(2017),a good account of information about the diffusion of the technologies in developing countries, are chosen as the translation material for the translation practice. The report consists of four chapters.Chapter 1 concerns the background information, including the research background, information about the source text and the authors, research significance as well as preparations before the translation.Chapter 2 starts with Reiss's text typology and takes it as the theoretical foundation for the text analysis, based on which the report explores the translation principles for the practice.Under the translation principles proposed in Chapter 2 and with the analysis of linguistic features of the source text,Chapter 3 studies the lexical, syntactical and textual translation of the source text and illustrates specific translation methods for each accordingly. And the concluding chapter draws a conclusion and puts forward some thinking on the future translation work.According to the text type categorization by Reiss,it is reasonably inferred that the source text belongs to informative text.As informative texts'main function is to represent facts and objects,it is important to assure accurate transfer of information during translation as suggested by Reiss. The source text abounds with terminology and proper nouns, the professionalism of which requires high accuracy when translated. To achieve the goal, specific methods like adoption of approved translations, literal translation, terminologization, and addition of annotations are employed in the practice. And with the focus on conte.nts, the translation of informative texts should always have the target language dominating and oriented. The frequent use of loose sentences and long sentences in the source text, however,is not in line with the usage of Chinese. To tackle the problem, methods like inversion, linear translation and division are used in the practice to suit Chinese expression. In addition, according to the text typology, informative texts are logical in language dimension which brings out another requirement for the translation:to be as logical as possible. As for the great number of cases discussed in the source text, the report argues that the achievement of textual cohesion and semantic coherence can be the prerequisite to the reproduction of logicality of the discussions. And preservation and addition of cohesive devices, addition of transition sentences and specification of information can be good ways to help achieve that. The discussions in the report show that the principles of accuracy, target language orientation and logicality generated under Reiss's text typology can offer practical help with the translation of informative texts and then help translators improve translation quality and standard.
