This is a translation project report on Chapter 5 to 9 of Clean Protein: The Revolution That Will Reshape Your Body,Boost Your Energy—and Save Our Planet by Kathy Freston and Bruce Friedrich. The source text selected discusses clean protein source, intake methods, the current situation and trend of the American meat industry. In this part, the authors introduce the differences between clean protein and animal-based protein as well as their impacts on human beings.Since there is no comprehensive and systematic book discussing clean protein in China, the translation of this book is of great significance. This report is guided by Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory, elaborating the difficulties encountered in the translation, such as polysemy and compound-complex sentences and their corresponding solutions.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, the translator endeavors to render the original ideas in a clear and understandable way by breaking the grammatical limitations of the original text and adopting various translation techniques, including diction, extension, division and inversion. It is hoped that this project will be valuable in helping the receptors to understand the clean protein.
