Since the establishment of the Confucius Institute in Islamabad in 2005,there are currently four Confucius Institutes in Pakistan.These Confucius Institutes spread Chinese and Chinese culture in Pakistan and promoted cultural exchanges and development between China and Pakistan.The Confucius Institute at the Punjab University,which was established in 2015,has achieved remarkable results in just three years,but at the same time,the Confucius Institute still needs further improvement in Chinese teaching and cultural exchange.The author conducted a questionnaire survey and interview with the Confucius Institute at Punjab University.The scope of the survey is related to Chinese teaching materials,curriculum,teachers,learners and classroom teaching.On this basis,in-depth thinking and analysis pointed out the problems and reasons of the Confucius Institute at Punjab University in teaching equipment,Chinese curriculum,Chinese textbooks,teaching,Chinese learners and classroom teaching.In addition,with the second language teaching and Chinese teaching related theoretical knowledge as the guidance,the Chinese teaching of the Confucius Institute at Punjab University is proposed and recommended.This paper is divided into five parts:The first part expounds the background meaning of the topic,the research status at home and abroad,the purpose,content and method of the research.The second part introduces Pakistan language policy and the basic profile of four Confucius Institutes in Pakistan and two Confucius Classrooms.The third part conducts a questionnaire survey on the teaching status of the Confucius Institute at Punjab University and analyzes the results.The content relates to the situation of the learner,the situation of the teacher,the curriculum setting,the use of the teaching materials,and the like.The fourth part points out the problems in the teaching of Chinese in the Confucius Institute at Punjab University and tries to analyze the cause of these problems.The fifth part is about the problems existing in the Chinese language teaching of Punjab University.Combined with the theory of second language teaching and Chinese teaching,combined with the specific national conditions of Pakistan and the actual situation of Chinese learners,some suggestions are put forward.The conclusion is a comprehensive summary of the survey,and prospects for the development of the Confucius Institute at Punjab University in Pakistan and the future of Chinese teaching in Pakistan.
