Translation,as a cultural exchange activity, plays a vital role in the development of world economy. The language features of The Battle for Spain tend to be documentary, and its difficulty and sentence structure are complicated and changeable.Domestication is a target language-oriented translation,in which the translator should try to adopt the standard of words and expressions recognized by the target language readers and express language like the target language users. And foreignization is oriented by the source language and tries to keep the "original style" of the source language so that readers can understand the idea of the author directly. The Battle for Spain,by Antony Beevor known as British historian,is one of his most famous works and has two versions in 1982 and 2006.The report takes the English translation of The Battle for Spain as its research object and discusses the application of domestication and foreignization in the translation. After finishing the translation of the first chapter, the translator analyzes and summarizes the characteristic vocabulary and long and difficult sentences in the translated part.Combining strategies with practice, the translator adopts different methods of domestication and foreignization for different words and sentences under the guidance of domestication and foreignization. The author makes introspection and summarizes the experience and lessons accumulated in the writing.By writing the translation, the translator has a comprehensive consideration of the strategies of domestication and foreignization.
