Qiang,as one of most important ethnics in the Northwest of Sichuan province,has a long and splendid culture.The 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008,however,brought severe problems to the living of Qiang people and caused devastating hit to Qiang culture.How to develop and how to invigorate the Qiang culture under the multicultural background become the critical issues that need to be solved urgently.The translation project is provided by the “Sichuan Historical and Cultural Story Popularization Base” of SWUST with The Code of the Qiang People Series(Excerpts),which includes 5 volumes: The Legend of the Shenlin Pillar,Shibi in the Culture of Ancient Qiang,The Nine Treasures of Qiang,The Charm of Western Qiang Paintings and The Holy Iron in Qiang.The myth of Qiang is decoded from Qiang’s local legends,relics,beliefs,artworks,accessories and other aspects.The Code of the Qiang People Series enriches the ethnic materials for Sichuan province,provides the readers with critical reference support to study on Qiang history,traditions and customs and makes great contributions to the protection and inheritance of Qiang culture.The translation practice report is mainly guided by the Yan Fu’s “three translation rules”-“Faithfulness,Expressiveness and Elegance” and the translation strategies of domestication and foreignization led by Eugene Nida and Lawrence Venuti separately.Deep analysis to the translation process of The Code of the Qiang People Series will be proceed through the lexical level,syntactic level and cultural level and the feasibility of domestication and foreignization translation strategies to deal with the source text can be certified by detailed case studies.The report aims to resolve some problems caused by the cultural difference in the process of translating,providing some translation skills of the relevant texts on Qiang culture for further studies.
