This paper is a translation report on The Upstarts---Uber,Airbnb and the Battle for the New Silicon Valley,written by Brad Stone,a senior editor of Bloomberg News.The 10 th Chapter is chosen for this project,which elaborates the story of Uber in the face of financial challenges and social controversies in its growth process.This translation project aims to provide visceral experience for relevant emerging enterprises in China as well as to give Chinese readers a fresh perspective on the sharing economy.This translation project report consists of five chapters.Chapter One introduces the background and significance of the project.Chapter Two focuses on the preparation before translation,including a brief introduction to the author,analysis of content,the text type and linguistic features of the source text.Chapter Three elaborates Newmark’s communication translation and its application in translation practice.Guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the translator attempts to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that of obtained on the readers of the original.Chapter Four analyses difficulties of the project and corresponding solutions.Those difficulties include the translation of terminologies,proper nouns and long and complex sentences.The solutions to those difficulties include adopting the established popular translated names,transliteration with free translation,linear translation,inversion and division.The last chapter is to sum up the problems unsolved and lessens taken from this project.
