A Project Report Of E-C Translation Of Railway Technical Description Entrusted By A Chinese Locomotive Company

Along with China's high-speed railway industry marching towards into international market, the translation of railway technical documents is of greater importance for the enhancement of international technical communication and cooperation, and the development of independent property rights. In this project report, the author selects and translates a railway technical description which includes railway performance, lighting and safety control, intending to further dive into the principles and corresponding solutions in the translation of railway sci-tech materials, and promote technological communication and cooperation between different countries.Sci-tech English translation has the function of spreading scientific and technological information and serves as a bridge between different countries to promote technological communication and development. Based on the whole translation process of the railway technical description, the author points out major difficulties in the translation project, and puts forward detailed translation strategies at the level of lexicon, syntax and rhetorical devices. In the analysis of the linguistic features of railway technical description, the author realizes that translators should observe Peter Newmark's Communicative Translation Theory and establish an awareness of faithfulness and accuracy in the conveying of the information and implication of source text so as to achieve the goals of technological interaction and information communication.
