This is a report on the translation of the 7th chapter of Children,Nature,City:Rethinking the Connections,a monograph written by Claire Freeman and Yolanda van Heezik.The book consists of four parts that explain the relationship between children and nature,pointing out that children should walk into nature,and the urban biodiversity is consistently changing.The seventh chapter of the book introduces the relationship between children,nature and health,and highlights the benefits of nature for children's health in many aspects.This paper is guided by Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory to explore difficulties and solutions in the translating.For some terminologies,adjectives and adverbs in the text,free translation and conversion will be adopted.For some long sentences and attributive clauses in the text,division and order changing will be used.Translating a monograph should break the limits of source text and try to render readers the exact information in target language in the same systematic and coherent way as source text provides the original readers.Finally,the experience gained and problems to be solved are summarized. |
