Impromptu speeches,a common form in interpreting, are characterized by redundant information,non-logical structure, and an obscure purport. In such a case, condensed interpreting can satisfy the audience's needs to get the purport of the speech as well as improve the efficiency of a meeting.Condensed translation refers to the act of greatly shortening the original work by extracting the essence and filtering the details, which can also be applied to the process of interpreting.Three principles should be taken into consideration, namely compression, faithfulness, and overall coherence.Specific methods of condensed interpreting include capturing the framework, spotting keywords, and summarizing the purport, etc. The report is based on the author's one-day interpreting practice at the First Seminar on the China-Malaysia Twin Parks Cooperation. It is intended to summarize and analyze the condensed interpreting strategies adopted by the author at the request of the client and in light of the characteristics of impromptu speeches. To sum up,while satisfying the three principles of faithfulness, condensation, and logicality, the author drew upon the strategies of catching the keywords, grasping the outline, and identifying the main ideas as well as the three tactics of omission, reorganization and compression. This report,by making case analysis at the lexical, syntactic and discourse levels, explores how to identify the main idea of the speeches and reorganize them in the target language. It is found that the tactics adopted can make the interpreting coherent in logic, faithful in content and clear in purport. It is hoped that these tactics and analysis will shed light on future studies on interpreting of impromptu speeches.
