This practice report is based on the author's interpreting practice in the Symposium of Asian Broadcasting Personnel on TV Production from August 21 to 24,2018,when she worked as a consecutive interpreter for four speakers.The author chose her interpreting for one impromptu speech as the subject of a case study.The author analyzed challenges she met and put forward her coping strategies respectively.The author reviewed previous literatures on the features of impromptu speeches as well as interpreting preparation for impromptu speeches,and used the Interpretive Theory as the theoretical foundation in this report.In the case analysis,the author gave a detailed analysis of her performance.She summarized her coping strategies for interpreting the impromptu speech with the elements such as humor,metaphors,loose structure and quotations.The author also reflected on how she applied the Interpretive Theory in interpreting some difficult sentences and offered improved interpreting versions for the sentences that she did not perform well during the assignment.In addition,the author also provided suggestions on knowledge accumulation for interpreting impromptu speeches.The author hoped that these strategies could help her and other interpreters avoid mistakes and improve the quality of interpreting in future practices.
