The Translation Of Chinese Subject-less Sentences

In recent years,China's forestry has obtained certain achievement.In order to summarize and reflect China's socialist forestry construction,development level,basic achievements and experience and lessons,the State Forestry Administration(SFA)publishes the CHINESE FORESTRY YEARBOOK.Foreigners can comprehend China's forestry industry through it.To promote the external publicity work in China and improve the translation quality of Chinese forestry yearbook,the translator studies the translation methods of Chinese subject-less sentences in the Chinese Forestry Yearbook(201 1-2015).Starting from hypotaxis and parataxis,the TR Device&SV Device,and the comparison of thinking modes between English and Chinese,this paper studies the differences between English and Chinese sentence patterns.On that basis,from the perspective of grammar and pragmatics,the author analyzes the special features of Chinese subject-less sentences and points out the characteristics of subject-less sentences in forestry yearbook.It is found that in the forestry yearbook,according to the structural and logic differences,subject-less sentences can be divided into sentences with long object and many coordinating verbs,sentences whose indirect object is real actor,sentences with subordinating verbs and Chinese existential clauses.For translating the first category,the most direct way is to find out the omitted logical subject.The second category can be translated into passive voice.The translation of last category can adopt the English equivalent of"there be" sentence patterns.In the whole research process,the author combines the macro analysis with the specific case analysis in the forestry yearbook.The purpose of this paper is to state the problems encountered in the translation process,propose solutions,and discuss the translation methods of Chinese subject-less sentences.It is believed that this study can help recognize the importance of translation practice,and provide references for the English translation of Chinese subject-less sentences in scientific and technological texts.
