Air traffic control(ATC)is an important pillar of civil aviation. With the rapid development of civil aviation in China, the demand for interpreting in air traffic control is also increasing. However, research on air traffic control interpreting is very limited, and existing research mainly focuses on aviation English teaching and terminology translation. This practice report is based on the author's experience as an interpreter for an Air Traffic Control seminar. The Skopos Theory, proposed by Vermeer in the late 1970s,focuses on the purpose of translation, which determines the methods and strategies to be employed.Guided by the Skopos Theory, specifically the three main rules of the theory, the author analyzed selected cases from the transcription of the interpreting task, and proposed interpreting strategies and suggestions for training interpreters and making preparations for interpreting for this specialized field. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the concepts of ATC and ATC Interpreting. In Chapter Two,the author introduces the background information of the interpreting task, followed by a description of the pre-task preparation and the interpreting process as well as the feedback from users.Chapter Three introduces the Skopos Theory and the main rules of the Skopos Theory, which will serve as the theoretical guidance for case analysis.Chapter Four presents an analysis of selected cases from the interpreting practice based on the Skopos Theory, difficulties and relevant strategies of ATC interpreting are discussed.Chapter Five concludes the report with a discussion of suggestions for ATC interpreting training.
