A Study On The Evaluation Construction Of "You Duo X Jiu You Duo Y"

Based on the theory of Construction Grammar,this paper investigate the emerging Chinese moden construction "you duo X jiu you duo Y".Firstly,We have carried out a full observation and description of the syntactic function of the construction and conducted statistical analysis.The study shows that the variable can be played by adjectives,mental verbs,and phrases,and there are multiple grammatical category combinations between construction variables.In terms of syntactic function,the construction can be independent of a sentence,can also serve as a variety of syntactic components,and can also act as a clause in a compound sentence.Secondly,in terms of semantic features,the variable X entering the construction is dominated by positive meaning,and the variable Y is dominated by negative meaning.Positive X group with the negative meaning Y is the most common use case of construction.Regardless of the grammatical category of X and Y,both X and Y have quantitative characteristics.There is a trendency relationship between X and Y.The overall construction meaning can be summarized as follows:the speaker evaluates the relationship between the two attributes of the evaluation object.Construction also has its own special use context.On the one hand,most of the contexts in the construction have a causal relationship;on the other hand,the construction and the commentary adverbs and modal adverbs co-occur.Finally,through investigation we found that the construction has three pragmatic functions:subjective evaluation,communicative interaction and discourse organization.
